Illustration Friday: Pattern

Antique woodtype print of a snake.

"Red on Yellow, Kill a Fellow." Antique woodtype monoprint of a snake by Wren M. Allen

Here is my entry for this week’s Illustration Friday theme : Pattern. I am very embarrassed to recycle this very old image for the theme! Back in late 2004 and early 2005, I printed a series of animal image monoprints using the antique display woodtype at Peacock Visual Arts Centre in Aberdeen. This was the first successful image in the series. I had been inspired by the notion of Bembo’s Alphabet, but wanted to do an analog version using the mismatched letters available. The snake’s body is meant to resemble the striping pattern of the coral snake–hence the title from the old saying.

If I finish another image by Friday, I’ll repost!
