Groovy Link of the Month: Dulce Nascimento

Who: Dulce Nascimento is a botanical illustrator living and working in Rio de Janeiro.

What: Recent projects by Dulce include a series of Mata Atlântica plants for Vale and botanical painting workshops for public school children throughout Brazil. Dulce is currently planning the logistics for an expedition to the Rio Negro with a group of Brazilian and Portuguese illustrators. This trip will take place in January 2010. Dulce was a recipient of the Margaret Mee fellowship at Kew Gardens in London.

Where: Her website is www.dulcenascimento.com.br Dulce is based in Rio de Janeiro, but her work features native plants from all over Brazil, especially the Amazon.

When: Her website was just updated this month.

How: Dulce Nascimento works in watercolor on paper from live specimens collected in the wild.

Why: I take classes in painting from Dulce and think her work is fantastic! :-)
