What will be the 2014 Pantone Color of the Year?

As soon as I saw the back cover of the Williams Sonoma catalog that arrived in the mail Saturday, I just KNEW what color Pantone was going to pick for their 2014 Color of the Year:

Harbinger of Pantone’s 2014 signature color? Williams Sonoma’s late summer catalog features kitchen towels and aprons in a color they call “claret.”

Purple dishtowels? Really?!

The blog at The Mercantile has a feature on the palettes Pantone has assembled for 2014, and a color named Tillandsia Purple is one of the jewel tones.

All the Adorables is predicting a dark blue as the hot color for 2014.

What color do you think Pantone will select as the 2014 Color of the Year?

So naturally, I’ve created a Pinterest board called Let’s Guess: What will be the 2014 Pantone Color of the Year? It’s a group board by invitation, and I’d love for you to join in the fun. Just drop me a line in the comments with your Pinterest handle, and I’ll send you a pinvitation to join the board. If you see a color in current fashion, design or media that you think looks to be a trend for next year, pin it up.

If you have $750 in your budget, you can purchase the PantoneView Color Planner for Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 and find out now.

But where’s the fun in that? 🙂

Disclaimer:

Please note, this is absolutely NOT a Pantone-sponsored event or board. I am NOT affiliated with or compensated by Pantone in any way. There are no prizes if you “win” by guessing the color correctly. This is all just good, clean, color-loving, design-nerd fun. Also, if you participate, please make the effort to pin from sites that permit pinning of their images and make sure there is a link or credit to the photographer/designer. Thanks!

Pantone’s Color Inspires: A contest for tweeters

Pantone is holding a contest for color-loving tweeters.

Every Monday between July 1 and August 31, 2013, the company will announce a design concept on Twitter. To participate, upload a photo to Twitter or Instagram that illustrates the concept and mention a color in the photo that you find inspiring (bonus points if you can reference a Pantone color 😉 ). Tag the photo with #ColorInspires and @Pantone.

Each week a winner will be chosen to receive a Pantone product. There will be two grand prize winners (one in July, one in August) who will each receive a Capsure Bluetooth color capture and matching device.
