Nature photographer Steven Schwartzman shares his macro photographs on his blog, Portraits of Wildflowers: Perspectives on Nature Photography. Based in Austin, TX, Schwartzman has more than 40 years of photography experience. He has published several books of his work and his macro florals have been featured in such magazines as Texas Highways and Wildflower, the journal of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. I discovered his blog via the blogroll of Lynette Weir of Soulsong Art.
Wildflowers, the pretty face of nature in Texas, are certainly resilient! Despite brutal drought and devastating wildfires during the summer of 2011, the floral roadside displays are predicted to be good to excellent, thanks to a rainy winter with mild temperatures.
The Texas patron saint of wildflower conservation Lady Bird Johnson would have celebrated her 100th birthday this year. How fitting that Texas wildflowers should rally to make a floral fireworks show this spring!
